Hello folks,
At last! Winter is over, Spring is in the air, the sun is out, the days are getting longer and we haven’t had a spare minute to cut the grass so our garden looks like a jungle.
Last month I found a pile of old sketchbooks in the back of the cupboard and made it my mission to flick though and find some bits that had never seen the light of day …then bring them to life with a bit of computer wizardry.
I made a couple into board books that have now gone onto the pile entitled “books waiting to be written”.
And I made this croc into a pattern. (He was too horizontal for the gram on his own so he needed a few repetitive mates.)
I used a digger to celebrate International Women’s Day…
And this weird gal to celebrate the sun actually coming out.
Then I found some musical instruments - which the wild animals (from the book waiting to be written) stole and formed a band.
Anyway then I got bored of the old sketchbooks and just went back to my usual mode… talking about the weather.
And drawing random animals staring blankly into space.
Then I buggered off to Bologna for the week with the OtherHalf. We’ve made it into an annual jaunt now. I go to the Bologna Children’s Book Fair for 3 days and he hires a bike and rides into the mountains. The rest of the time we eat all the food, drink all the Aperol Spritz and visit all the places. We went to Venice again this year, one of my favourite places.
The book fair was great. I helped my agent, Gary from Lemonade Illustration Agency, on their stand last year and I was so entertaining that he invited me back again this year. You’ll be pleased to hear that I did not disappoint 😜
I met up with all my fabulous publishing and illustrator pals and filled up on inspiration and good vibes.
And Aperol.
It was Mother’s Day while we were away so I drew a picture on my iPad for my Mum.
And now I’m back at home and ready to get cracking on lots of new ideas. I’ve got two trips away coming up in April though … so…
Anyway, enjoy the spring sunshine, I’ll see you again next month!
Dawn x
I love the way you write, its entertaining!
